Andalos: New and Improved

in  quick bite, middle eastern, bakery, v.s.l., casual, <$10

the pitch

We hadn't been to Andalos since they moved into their newly-constructed digs right down the street from their old location.  They did an amazing job with the new layout; the customer flow experience has been completely redesigned and streamlined (something we Arabs are not known for usually).  They even added a large seating area, both indoors and outdoors.

the mood

the food

The massive, warehouse-like space is neatly divided into several sections: shelved products, prepared meals, a pizza/bakery counter and a manakish counter.  Today we came exclusively for the latter, which boasts a choice of over thirty varieties.

Oeuf patate man'ouché

price:  $3.99  -  rating:  so-so

Carbs, more carbs and some protein!  Interesting flavours but the dough needs work as it was falling apart.

Kafta fromage man'ouché

price:  $6.18  -  rating:  hit

A great combination of flavours from the kafta (herbed, spiced ground beef) and cheese.  We like it with tomatoes, fresh mint leaves and kabees (pickled turnips).

the verdict

We love Andalos on the weekends in the daytime.  It's a great place to take your kids, have a bite, and do your groceries all at once.  It's a local gem and a success story for the Arab Ville Saint-Laurent community, and it's one of the reasons we like the area.
