Parma Café:

All-Purpose Italian Snack Bar

QUICK BITE ITALIAN CONCORDIA GHETTO MODERATE

Disclaimer: This meal was comped.

The Pitch

Jamaica gave way to Italy as the relocation of Concordia area Caribbean fixture Mango Bay saw the introduction of Parma Café in the same locale on Bishop Street downtown.  The one-month-old café/deli — from ex-Euro Deli and Macaroni Bar principals — promises to bless Shaughnessy Village with authentic Italian comfort food at an affordable price.

The Mood

The newcomer's interior has been redone from the ground up in a classic, old-world spirit that goes with the greystone building's charming facade.  The inviting, intimate space quickly drew us to the bar, from where the conversation with our friendly barista and one of the owners started — and did not end until our departure just before closing.

The Food

Food Image

The cafe's multifaceted offering spans strong espressos, Italy's trifecta of PPP (pizza, panini, pasta) and a pret-a-manger/takeout counter.  Every craving will be satisfied, whether you're in for a coffee, lunch or a light dinner with a drink; you can even walk out with a selection of homemade or imported products.  There's no novelty here; this is simple, tasty and low-cost fare that is prepared with care — and almost entirely in-house.
